Stretching your hair is a must for your wash and go and it has some real benefits. Aside from creating that perfect shape and getting some of that length, it can also prevent single strand knots and tangles that occur from having your hair defined and in a shrunken state.

Start your stretch on completely dry hair, you can use the indirect heat from a blow dryer or use the banding method. The key to keeping definition is to leave your ends alone to keep them super defined and coily.

Stretching with heat

TIP- Always start stretching your wash and go on dry hair to prevent causing any frizz.

  • Ensure that your roots are dry using a diffuser or by sitting under a hooded dryer
  • Once your hair is completely dry, start using the concentrator nozzle on your blow dryer
  • Start separating your hair into small sections to get an even stretch
  • When stretching, make sure you focus the concentrated blow dryer on your roots only and protect your ends to prevent them from getting stretched. This will ensure that your ends stay curly and coily preserving the wash and go look.
  • You only need around 10-20 seconds of low heat for each section
  • Remember that our only focus here is to only apply low heat to our roots and stay 4-5 inches away from our ends
  • Apply little to no heat if you have any sections of hair that have a looser curl. This could be the front of your hair or the sides.

Give me more volume

  1. You can go in with a pick or your hands to achieve a bigger wash and go. Remember to avoid the ends.
  2. If you want even more volume, you can further stretch your hair by banding 4 sections of your hair
